The word chakra is a Sanskrit word that means wheel or vortex, because the chakras are energy vortices that look like spinning funnels or wheels of colour. The chakras are energy centres through which we receive life-force energy into the body and aura. There are 7 major chakras on the body and each one is associated with and connected to specific parts of the body, organs and glands of the endocrine system. When the chakras are open and healthy so are its associated body parts and the energy flows well to all parts of the body through energy channels called meridians or nadis. Each chakra relates to a different aspect of our spiritual, emotional, mental and psychological wellbeing, affecting our awareness, understanding and growth. The seven chakras are each associated with a different layer of the aura and is associated with a certain colour. Like the aura each chakra vibrates at a higher frequency, starting at the base of the spine which is the densest energy up to the top of the head which is the finest vibration.
